t.A.T.u.’s Ex-Director Talks About Problems With The Band’s Reunion

The members of t.A.T.u. will probably sing live, but their performance of the hit “Ya Soshla S Uma” is not serious, the former concert director of the band, Leonid Dzyunik, said in an interview with NSN.

Singer Julia Volkova previously announced on social networks about t.A.T.u.’s reunion, having published joint photos with Lena Katina. Their next performance is scheduled to take place in Yalta in mid-July. Dzyunik doubted that the revival of the band will be complete without new hits.

“I don’t think that t.A.T.u.’s return will be on the same scale as it was 20-25 years ago. Then, they were little girls who were 15-16 years old, beautiful, young. Now, they are already grown women, each of them has two children. If they sing: “I’ve gone crazy, I need her” or “Count to a hundred” – this is not serious. In order to bring back t.A.T.u., very serious work from composers is needed, serious authors are needed to write other songs for them. It is necessary to develop a new style for the band, and to return to what was there before… Kadysheva can return to the past, “Shiroka Reka” (Wide River) sounds the same now as it did 20 years ago. But t.A.T.u. is completely different, it is impossible to be repeated because it is an irreversible story. t.A.T.u. blew the roof off the whole world in its time,” the ex-director explained.

In his opinion, the singers will most likely not use a backing track, despite Julia Volkova’s voice problems.

“Yes, Julia Volkova has voice problems, but she studies, works on her voice, she has a phoniatrist, she has a vocal coach, she can sing with a live voice. Their first albums were recorded more than 20 years ago. How can you sing to a backing track of those old songs, when the voice is completely different there? The girls have grown up, matured. Everyone knows about Volkova’s voice problems, and imagine: suddenly a backing track will play, where she has a clear voice. But this is not serious! They themselves understand this perfectly well. Of course, they will sing live,” he concluded.

For her part, t.A.T.u.’s former producer Elena Kiper, who created the legendary songs “Ya Soshla S Uma” and “Nas Ne Dogonyat”, told NSN that in the event of a reunion, Volkova and Katina will be in demand and will be able to perform old hits.
