Photographer Vladislav Vorontsov recently worked with t.A.T.u. for photoshoot to promote their upcoming concert in Yalta. Ivan Shapovalov was present during the shoot, which caused a bit of a stir on set. Here is the translation from Vladislav’s Instagram story describing what happened:
Coming back to t.A.T.u.’s shoot.
The process for the shoot was planned to the max. Prepared looks, printed out references, make-up artists, lighting, assistants – everything as usual.
The most important thing was to do it as fast as possible and create a cool result. In these types of photoshoots I do not like the unknown, so I shoot right into the Mac which Ivan Shapovalov was sitting behind.
I will tell you the truth: we argued with him about the composition of the shot, Julia and Lena’s emotions, and the general concept which I created. And at the moment of defending my vision (of course, I did it as tactfully as possible, but straightforward) my whole team got quiet.
I will explain. I created the concept, I received the freedman to create, I collected the images (my team = me). And then Vanya comes and says, no, it has to be different.
And yes, I understood that Ivan was in front of me – this is a person who created not just a band (as many now appear and disappear), he created a cult project known to the entire planet. I really respect this person very much and I still need to get to this level. But I will defend myself and my ideas to the end.
But what was everyone’s surprise when Ivan said, “Yes, Vlad, I agree with your ideas, shoot”.
The shooting continued at the same fast pace and we finished with the desired result.
After we said goodbye to everyone and were left alone with the team, I sat down in a chair and my hands were shaking like after a parachute jump.
I, we, all… did it. Wait for the billboard friends, because the first t.A.T.u. concert in Yalta is just the beginning.
And when colleagues in the industry write such things, my heart melts. Thank you.
Yes, “a legend” may be a big name, but I was the one who shot the reunion of the cult band.
