At first it was a made-up story – two girls went crazy from love and passion for each other. And they reminded everyone that strong feelings, such as love, do not have boundaries or borders.
t.A.T.u.’s first single, “Ya Soshla S Uma” debuted on the radio. The song took first place in playlists and broadcasts on Russian Radio, Radio Dynamite, Hit-FM, Europe+ in the course of a few months. In total, “Ya Soshla S Uma” played more than 10,000 times on air of national and regional radio stations, and this number is constantly increasing.
The video for “Ya Soshla S Uma” came out on MTV Russia and got to first place right away. The “Ya Soshla S Uma” single sold 50,000 official copies.
2001
The company Neformat, which holds the rights to the t.A.T.u. brand and acts as the organizer of the entire creative process, signs a contract with the Russian branch of the world leader in the music industry, Universal Music Russia. The debut album “200 Po Vstrechnoi” is released and sells a legendary 500,000 copies in the first two months after its release. Throughout 2001, the album sold more than 850,000 legendary copies in Russia.
After, the new single and video “Polchasa” is released and is shown on Russian TV channels more than 3,000 times between autumn 2001 to 2002. At the same time, the duet wins an award at the MTV Music Video Awards in the Viewers’ Choice category for Best Russian Video for “Ya Soshla S Uma”.
