Julia Volkova’s Director Discusses Whether the band can perform their hits after reuniting

After the announcement of the group’s reunion in 2022, the author of the music for several t.A.T.u. songs, Sergei Galoyan, announced the ban on the ex-singers from performing the hits written by him. As the concert director of Julia Volkova, Katerina Dorosh, assured in an interview with Gazeta.Ru, Galoyan cannot prohibit anything for the singers.

“Sergei Galoyan is not a producer, but simply one of the co-authors of the material that the girls performed. We do not want to engage in a re-release of songs, Lena and Julia have the rights to perform all the compositions. Previously, such questions have never been raised. Only the court can prohibit the singing of t.A.T.u. songs, and for this all the authors must get together”, Dorosh said.

She claims that Sergei Galoyan is deceiving the press, claiming that he allegedly called Lena Katina and Julia Volkova to take part in the tribute to for the “deceased” group.

“In general, the situation is not very honest, because Galoyan is being deceitful – no one has ever invited Julia to participate in this tribute, which was supposedly going to be held this year. They never called me, did not write a single letter. I don’t understand why they do this. The truth will be revealed anyway, we just have to make one statement”, Dorosh added.

One of the former singers of t.A.T.u., Lena Katina, announced the reunion of the group in the Spring of 2022. The singer added that she will perform with Julia Volkova. Music producer Sergei Galoyan immediately reacted to this news. In his Instagram, he stated that he prohibits singers from performing hits, the rights to which belong to him. We are talking about the songs “Not Gonna Get Us”, “All The Things She Said”, “Show Me Love”, “30 minutes”, “Malchik Gay”, “Sacrifice”, “All My Love”, “Martian Eyes”, “Cosmos”, and “Perfect Enemy”.

According to him, in 2019, together with the co-producer of the project and co-author of all the main songs Elena Kiper, he thought about creating a tribute for t.A.T.u., but they had to return to this idea only in 2021, since in 2020 restrictions due to the Coronavirus. However, when Galoyan and Kiper called Lena Katina and Julia Volkova to invite them to take part in the tribute, they were met with a negative reaction from the singers.
