How hard is it to build a solo career after such a big success of a duet?
…I do not connect the t.A.T.u. project with my solo career. These are two things: Julia Volkova in t.A.T.u. and Julia Volkova without t.A.T.u., just like Lena…When new songs come out, a lot of fans say, “This is a different style. Why did she do this? She should sing these kinds of things, this is better for her.” Nobody knows what is going on inside of me. Don’t compare it. t.A.T.u. is a different thing. And I am different too and inside of me there are different things…I have internal feelings and music which I am ready to share and not ask advice on.
[Aside from the movie You & I], you were in other movies?
Yes, we shot Zombie Fever. These were friends of my parents who were related to this, who directed this, and called me up. And recently, at the beginning of the year, I flew to Goa, India and we shot a film with Roman Mikhaylov, who is a trendy director right now. It’s called Песни джиннов (Songs of Genies), but it has not been released yet. I will be doing a soundtrack for the movie.
So many people listening to this have already started to discuss it in the comments. You are probably used to this.
Yes, I am fine with it. I even love to answer people. When people comment on my Instagram posts, both bad and good things, I reply to them. People think it is my PR team. But not, it is me. I see it all, the bad and the good.
Why did you, after all this time, decide to come together and perform?
Why not?…Now we do not have to rush to perform 50 concerts a month. Right now we have a life which we are living and getting satisfaction from. We are not running around or rushing. We are doing it in a way that is comfortable to us and our team. We don’t need to give 30 concerts a month.
Is your solo career on pause for now?
Why? It is a continuation. I will be releasing a second song…There is an idea for what I want to do for the new video, but I will not reveal it. There are even ideas for songs. Everything is being written and being worked on now. I am working with authors and composers. I tell them what I want to talk about and they translate this to lyrics and music.
